• The 36-hole leader Trevor Immelman has struggled early-on this year (one top-25 in eight starts) after undergoing surgery on Dec. 18 to remove a benign tumor from behind his ribcage. He did not play his first event in 2008 until February at the FBR Open.

• Trevor Immelman and Brandt Snedeker are the only two players with two rounds in the 60s thus far.

• Trevor Immelman is looking to join countryman and three-time winner Gary Player as South African champions of the Masters.

• The 36-hole leader Trevor Immelman is just 1-under-par on the par-5s this week.

• Trevor Immelman came into the Masters averaging 30.50 putts per round (196 th on the PGA TOUR but through two rounds this week, he has averaged 27.00 putts.

• Trevor Immelman became the third player in Masters since 1942 to open the tournament with rounds of 68-68 (Sam Byrd, 1942, 4th and Tom Watson, 1991, T3). Immelman's previous low in the first two rounds at the Masters was 72 as an amateur in 1999.

• The 136 opening total for Trevor Immelman is the lowest first 36 holes at the Masters since Chris Dimarco opened 67-67?134 in 2005 when he finished second in a playoff to Tiger Woods. Trevor Immelman leads the field with just one bogey. Nick Dougherty leads the field with 11 birdies, including seven on Friday.

• There were three bogey-free rounds on Friday -- Steve Flesch, Mike Weir and Phil Mickelson. The bogey-free round was the first for Phil Mickelson in 2008 and his first since Round 2 of the 2007 Deutsche Bank Championship.

• The 1992 Masters champion Fred Couples was unable to surpass Gary Player's Masters record of 23 consecutive cuts and is now 23-of-24 in made cuts at the Masters. His streak began in 1983. He did not play at Augusta in the 1987 or 1994.

• The round of 67 by Steve Flesch was the lowest of the week thus far and the best round at the Masters since Jose Maria Olazabal posted a 66 in the final round in 2006. The 67 matched Flesch's career low at Augusta National GC, carded in the second round in 2004. With the 67, he jumped from T19 to T3.

• After a run earlier this decade of five straight years with finishes of T6 or better including two runner-up finishes (2000-04), Ernie Els missed the cut for the second straight year. Els has not finished in the top-25 since his second-place finish to Phil Mickelson in 2004.

• Prayad Marksaeng withdrew after nine holes of the second round due to an injured back.

Three of the five lowest scores on Friday (Steve Flesch/67, Trevor Immelman/68, Brandt Snedeker/68) played among the first seven of the 32 groupings on the day. The fourth -- Phil Mickelson -- was in the 14th group while the fifth -- Mike Weir -- was in the 30th group.

• Despite a 4-over-par 76 on Friday, defending champion Zach Johnson made the cut at 2-over-par. Mike Weir (2004) was the last defending champion to miss the cut.

• The cut came at 3-over-par with 45 players making it to the weekend. Nineteen of the 45 players are in red figures heading to the weekend.
